Warren Author-Workplace-Name: Land Use and Rural Management, University of Plymouth, United Kingdom Title: Adoption of ICT in agricultural management in the United Kingdom: the intra-rural digital divide Abstract: The benefits arising from adoption of information and communication technology by farming businesses are explored, and the prospect of a digital divide appearing in the UK agricultural sector is discussed, drawing on results of research at the University of Plymouth. It is proposed that countries in Central and Eastern Europe will be subject to the same phenomenon, and that the potential disadvantage suffered by non-adopters of this technology will be sufficiently severe to justify both policy intervention and further research. Křůmalová Author-Workplace-Name: Research Institute of Agricultural Economics, Prague, Czech Republic Title: Evaluation of chosen benefits on environment and landscape coming from Czech agriculture Abstract: The objective of the study was to assess public goods coming from agriculture. Decisions about subjects of the assessment was the first step which was followed by the choice of suitable methods in view of data availability. The choice came out mainly from the most significant agricultural subsidies in the framework of public finance extent and were introduced as multifunctional agriculture maintenance (landscape maintenance, grassing, vulnerable farming in protected landscape areas and national parks etc.). Landscape maintenance was considered as the most relevant and it was quantified by direct valuation method (contingent valuation method). The other public goods were assessed by indirect valuation methods (opportunity costs, replacement costs, prevention costs). Pražan Author-Workplace-Name: Research Institute of Agricultural Economics, Prague, Czech Republic Title: Evaluation of agri-environmental policy delivery system on regional level - case study in Bílé Karpaty Abstract: Regional officials who are dealing with target groups and should cope with real world limits and conflicts heavily influence implementation of agri-environmental policies. This process is not addressed enough to understand what are the concepts behind and potential difficulties when introduced the EU policies. Group of actors is operating and acting to pursue their interest on the regional level usually. Their interactions motivated by particular common interest finally could turn the policy to a failure or to a success. In order to answer some questions regarding implementation process, the case study was prepared in Bílé Karpaty dealing with farming vs. conservation conflict. The aspects of policy agreement were studied and potential changes of policy agreement as a result of the EU policies introduction in the Czech Republic was assessed. Lesson for policy design and management from the case study was expected. There are formulated and evaluated 4 scenarios for the model AGRO-3 SR and two alternatives A and B for the model ALOKA relating to all scenarios. Results of simulations have shown that the best result was reached in the scenario 4 by the price liberalization in the whole food chains. Pour Author-Workplace-Name: Czech University of Agriculture, Prague, Czech Republic Title: Institutional problems of pig meat sector in the Czech Republic Abstract: The paper deals with the institutional problems in the pig meat sector in the Czech Republic. The information was obtained in the frame of Project PHARE-ACE P97-8098-R "Institutional Economics in the Agri-Food Business: How can Structural Policy Help to Integrate EU?" The research was performed in year 2000 by means of a questionnaire method and a method of interviews with managers of individual entities in the food chain of pig meat sector. Problems of the execution of property rights in supplier-customer relations in the Czech pig meat sector are the following (institutional view): poor enforceability of property rights, sale for cash, refraining from long-term contracts, decrease of trust between business partners and trust in legal institutions, increase of transaction costs, lack of business ethics etc. Keywords: pig meat sector, problems, institutional view, Czech Republic Journal: Agricultural Economics Pages: 29-35 Volume: 48 Issue: 1 Year: 2002 DOI: 10.17221/5285-AGRICECON File-URL: http://agricecon.agriculturejournals.cz/doi/10.17221/5285-AGRICECON.html File-Format: text/html X-File-Ref: http://agriculturejournals.cz/RePEc/caa/references/age-200201-0006.txt Handle: RePEc:caa:jnlage:v:48:y:2002:i:1:id:5285-AGRICECON Template-Type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: U.R. Turečková Author-Workplace-Name: Dept. of Marketing and Trade, Faculty of Economics and Business, Mendel University Brno, Czech Republic Title: Segmenting the tourism market using perceptual and attitudinal mapping Abstract: Decreasing numbers of tourists to the Czech Republic point at a weakening competitive position of Czech destinations during the most recent years. For many communities, tourism may be a short-lived economic dream when understanding of tourists´ perceptions and travel motives is lacking. The two objectives pursued in this study are 1) an identification of the positions of competing destinations and 2) an a-posteriori segmentation with psychographic variables. Market segmentation becomes the crucial factor in the strategic design process of target marketing. Like many other markets, tourism markets do not respond homogeneously to marketing activities. Subdividing visitors into useful groups may provide a basis for competitive advantage. Our study establishes taxonomy of visitors to Southern Moravia. The study tries to overcome well-known insufficiencies of single segmentation approaches by exploiting the advantage of the multivariate nature of combined push factors, pull factors, and other factors of more restrictive nature (i.e. time and money). The segmentation task employs multivariate data analysis techniques such as factor analysis, cluster analysis and multi-dimensional scaling. Recent research on the European Vacation Style Typology is incorporated.
