Rates of employment in the EU 15 together were evaluated in the period 1993-2002, in the associated states of the EU together in the period 1997-2002 and in the Czech Republic in the period 1998-2003. Rates of unemployment in the EU 15, USA and in Japan were evaluated in the period 1994-2003, in the associated states of EU in the period 1998-2003. Employment of males in the EU is higher then employment of females. Trends of rates of male, female and total employment is increasing. Trends of the rate of females are strongly increasing. Employment of males in the associated states of the EU is also higher than employment of females. Trends of the rates of male, female and total employment are increasing in the reference period. Unemployment in the EU is higher than unemployment in the USA and Japan, but lower then in associated states of the EU. Methods of regression and correlation analysis and development trends were applied for the mathematical-statistical analysis. It suggests an age structure, a structure according to education and qualification, number of employees, permanent state, fiscal state, paid state. The wage differentiation analysis comes from the calculation of month wage and series of quantiles indicators. Ševela Author-Workplace-Name: Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry, Brno, Czech Republic Title: Convergence of household expenditures of the EU-member and acceding countries in the years 1995-2002 Abstract: The convergence in household consumption expenditure contributes to the aims defined in the Treaty of the European Union. Consumption expenditure convergence also restricts the impacts of asymmetric shocks under the bounded inner market mobility of goods, services and sources. The paper concentrates on convergence level and dynamics of consumption expenditures between the EU member and acceding countries in years 1995-2002. There are significant differences in absolute values of convergence expenditures, in prices levels of consumption goods and consumption structures among the groups of countries in year 1995. During the eight years the gap became smaller measured by the structure and absolute level of expenditures recalculated on purchasing power parity. Panel data analysis of food share in consumption disclosed the influence of total consumption expenditures while the impact of relative price of commodity is ambiguous. Syrovátka Author-Workplace-Name: Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry, Brno, Czech Republic Title: Income elasticity of food expenditures of the average Czech household Abstract: The paper was focused on the quantitative research of the income elasticity in the field of the food expenditures within the consumer bundle of the average Czech household between 1995 and 2002. The quantitative analysis of the elasticity was based on the system of the nine one-equation regression models of the demands. Because of the time dimension of the used CZO databases, the partial equations of the demand system were developed in the explicit dynamic form. For the elimination of the price changes in the research of the income-elasticity, the real levels of the expenditures and the incomes were calculated. With respect to instant and easy interpretation of the results, the linear relationships between fixed base coefficients of percent growths of the household incomes and expenditures were used in the developed system of demand models. Thus, the income elasticity was determined by means of the value of b regression parameters. The achieved estimations of the studied income-expenditure elasticity were adjusted, so that Engel aggregation condition was kept. The paper contains the suggestion of the some methodological principles for the coefficient adjusting. The statistical diagnostics was involved in the quantitative part of the elasticity research. There was used the evaluation of determination coefficients, its F-tests, and T-tests of the relevant parameters (b regression parameters). Černíková Author-Workplace-Name: Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry, Faculty of Business and Economics, Brno, Czech Republic Title: Influence of price level of imported wine on competition in the wine-production sector in the Czech Republic Abstract: The paper is a part of solution of the grant awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture (NAZV) No. QF 3276 and analyzes the influence of the price level of imported bottled wine on the competition in the wine-production sector in the Czech Republic. The comparison of the industrial producers' prices in the Czech Republic with the average import prices of bottled wine in particular years brings us to conclusion that a threat for Czech producers is first the price of the imported table wine (white and red) at present. The average import prices of this wine category varied under the minimal average industrial producers' prices in 1998-2003. The average import price of the white table wine in containers up to 2 liters was 19 CZK per liter in 2003 and the minimal average industrial producers' price was 26.90 CZK per liter in the same year. The price level is higher in case of the red table wine in general, but the average annual import prices (in 2003, 23 CZK per liter) also varied under the minimal average industrial producers' prices in all analyzed years (in 2003, 29.70 CZK per liter). The situation is more positive for the Czech wine producers in case of the quality wine. There is a space for an increase in price. The average import prices were by 25 CZK per liter per year higher in average than the maximal industrial producers' prices in the Czech Republic in all analyzed years. However, while the average annual import price of the white quality wine increases (50 CZK per liter in 1998; 93 CZK per liter in 2003) and creates a bigger space for the Czech wine producers in the price policy, the average annual import prices of the red quality wine varied around 80 CZK per liter in all analyzed years. Based on direct questioning of 1 000 respondents from the whole Czech Republic, we found that 11.3% of respondents drink wine several times a week, 29.8% of respondents at least once a week, and 23.2% drink wine several times a month. Only 2.7% of respondents do not drink wine at all. 30.3% of respondents drink wine more often than before, especially because of the fact, that they like wine more, it is of a better quality, and the offer is bigger. 34.1% of respondents buy wine several times a month especially in supermarkets or hyper- markets (45.2%) and in special vine-stores (23.8%). 52.5% of respondents prefer quality varietal wine. Rank of the top ten wines most often bought by the selected sample of respondents is: Frankovka, Cabernet Sauvignon, Müller Thurgau, Veltlínské zelené, Rulandské bílé, Svatovavřinecké, Modrý Portugal, Chardonnay, Ryzlink vlašský, Bohemia sekt.
