Three such measures - the higher frequency of quality checks conducted by public authorities, the imposition of some import barriers on the foodstuffs from countries known for their frequent breaches of quality standards in the food industry and the establishment of an information platform serving for the public pillorying of poor quality food - are studied in this paper. The experimental policy analysis was used as the research method. The results obtained show that only the higher frequency of quality checks can improve the situation of consumers. This measure is also effective in punishing the dishonest retailers, while not harming the honest ones. However, the consumer attitudes and buying behaviours of sustainable food are still not completely understood. In this context, this paper aims to investigate the factors affecting consumers' attitudes towards food products with sustainable attributes. The first part of the work presents an overview of the theoretical concepts of sustainable consumption. Subsequently, the results of an empirical analysis with a sample of 300 consumers aimed at assessing factors' affecting consumer attitudes towards food products with sustainable attributes, such as Organic, Fair Trade and typical products, are presented. The results presented in this paper are valuable for both producers in the formulation of marketing strategies and for public institutions in the planning of the programs of education and information for the promotion of sustainable consumption. The unique in-depth survey data was obtained from the surveys with the 103 LAG board's members using the written questionnaire designed for the inquiry and from the existing data analysis on projects which were co-financed by the LEADER funds in Slovenia in the years 2008 and 2009. The informal system of performance of the LAG board members was found to influence significantly its members' perception on the suitability of projects to be co-financed by the LEADER axis. The opposite was established for the formal system, which had an insignificant influence on the board members' perception on the suitability of projects.
