Three plantations with this material were established in the Czech Republic. These plantations are regularly measured and examined. The results show a very high potential of this material for the purposes of Czech forestry practice. The application of hydrogel affected the survival of pine seedlings during two vegetation periods after planting. Double application of STOCKOSORB AGRO (gel) on the root system after lifting caused an about 19% higher survival rate compared to control variants. The application of 7 g/planting hole of STOCKOSORB MICRO granules caused overdosage and plant mortality. The application of hydrogel granules is simple but it is very complicated not to cause the overdosage because of the very high swelling capacity of hydrogel. Research should be carried out to determine suitable hydrogel application rates for different environmental conditions and tree species. To design a technology with regard to the economic effectiveness of application will be a very important task. Chroust Author-Workplace-Name: Opočno, Czech Republic Title: Quality selection in young oak stands Abstract: The paper deals with an experiment that was established at Opočno Experimental Station of the Forest and Game Management Research Institute (CR) in an oak small pole stage in 1952 to test whether Schaedelin's (1942) tending method worked out for beech stands is suitable for oak stands. Development and growth of the oak stand without tending are analysed, and the influence of repeated positive selection and of definitive selection of target trees on the oak stand is described. The result of the 50-year experiment is that Schaedelin's tending method is suitable also for oak stands. However, it is rational only if the choice of candidates from the small pole stage is focused on vital straight trees. Kardoš Author-Workplace-Name: Faculty of Forestry, Technical University in Zvolen, Zvolen, Slovak Republic Title: Utilization of digital photogrammetry in forestry mapping Abstract: At present, photogrammetric interpretation of aerial images is a dominant method of forestry mapping. In the last years, transition from analogue to digital photogrammetry has been distinct. Digital photogrammetry enables to achieve workflow effectivity, and so to decrease the final product costs. The objective of the submitted paper was to evaluate the availability of digital photogrammetry for the forestry mapping rationalization. Digital aerotriangulation using the ImageStation SSK system brings more accurate results without requirements for the use of a larger amount of control points. The results also demonstrated the use of colour infrared aerial images, and also black and white aerial images at the scale 1:15,000 for the orthoimage creation in the forestry mapping department. Compared with the black and white aerial images, the colour infrared images have an essentially more interesting content, mainly from the qualitative aspect, which shifts them to use in many forestry disciplines (mostly for determination of the health conditions of forests stands, …), in combination with the remote sensing of the Earth and GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Constant and variable parameters were determined. In pressed plywood sheets, the shearing strength of gluing according to EW 100 and the coefficient of compressibility were determined. In pressing, heat transmission through the set of veneers was analyzed and effects of the moisture of veneers on heat transmission were tested. The percentage of resin hardening was also determined. Results were statistically analyzed. The dependence was determined of shearing strength, coefficient of compressibility and heat transmission on changes in pressing parameters. Results of the study consist in the proposal of pressing parameters for particular constructions of plywood.
