A total of 11 teat wart samples showing rice grain-like and small, sessile elevated greyish or flesh-like growths were collected from dairy cattle. DNA was extracted from these teat wart samples and PCR and real time PCR techniques were applied using specific primers for BPV-1 and -10 to detect the presence of viral nucleic acid. PCR revealed the presence of viral DNA of BPV-1 and -10 in three and seven samples, respectively. Quantification using real time PCR revealed that the copy numbers of the viral DNA of BPV-1 and -10 DNA varied from 1.12E + 04 to 2.99E + 04 and 3.56E + 02 to 5.23E + 06, respectively. From the present study it can be concluded that BPV-1 and -10 are involved in production of rice grain-like and sessile elevated growths on the teats of cattle. A total of 464 blood samples were collected from the three geographical regions (northern, central and southern regions) of the country between November 2009 and August 2011. Sera were separated from whole blood following standard procedures and analysed with an ELISA to detect antibodies against F. hepatica. The positive samples were further classified as mildly, moderately and strongly positive. Out of 464 goat sera samples assessed, five (1.1%) were seropositive. From these, three (0.6%) were mildly positive, two (0.4%) were moderately positive while no samples were observed to be strongly positive. All the five positive animals were adults (≥ 2 year old) rather than young goats (< 2 year old). There was no significant difference in seropositivity between age and regions. In conclusion, this study determined for the first time the seroprevalence of F. hepatica infection in native Korean goats. The findings also provide an update on the status of F. hepatica infection and can serve as a foundation for future investigations on the significance of this parasite in Korea. In total, 169 client-owned dogs with tricuspid regurgitation (TR) and 40 client-owned clinically healthy dogs were included. Dogs with TR were further categorised as suffering from chronic respiratory disorders (CRD), heartworm disease (HWD), mild/moderate chronic degenerative mitral valvular disease (CDMD), and severe CDMD. Among the echocardiographic indices of the right heart, no significant difference in the tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion to aortic root diameter ratio was found among the clinical healthy controls and the four different TR categories. No significant differences in TR peak velocity and pulmonic regurgitation peak velocity were found among dogs in the four different TR categories. The ratio of the right to left ventricular basal diameter in the right ventricular-focused view was significantly higher in dogs with chronic respiratory disorders and dogs with heartworms. Left ventricular compression quantified using the eccentricity index and the ratio of the main pulmonary artery to aortic root diameter were significantly higher in dogs with HWD. Their right ventricular acceleration to ejection time (AT/ET) was significantly lower in dogs with HWD. Based on these findings, we conclude that right heart indices are affected by CRD, HWD, and moderate to severe CDMD. However, right heart indices derived from left heart measurements might be underestimated in dogs with CDMD. They have been described to fibroblastic or histiocytic in origin, while storiform-pleomorphic variants share a similar morphologic pattern with other sarcomas. For this reason additional diagnostic methods including immunology, ultrastructure analysis and molecular approaches are necessary for a more accurate diagnosis. We report three cases of MFH in individual dogs which presented histological characteristics of pleomorphic sarcomatoid tumours. Microscopic investigation, immunohistochemistry (vimentin, CD68, desmin, α-smooth muscle actin, and S-100) and electron microscopy were performed for diagnosis. One case was diagnosed as storiform-pleomorphic type and two were diagnosed as giant cell type MFHs. The present study demonstrates concepts of MFHs based on newly described categories and suggests useful diagnostic approaches for uncertain sarcomatoid soft tissue tumours in canines. An ovariohysterectomy operation was performed at two years of age; however, mating subsequently continued. Vaginal bleeding and an irregular-shaped, oedematous vaginal mass (12 × 9 × 7 cm) were detected on clinical examination. The bitch also exhibited leukocytosis and erythrocytopenia. Abundant erythrocytes together with neutrophils, lymphocytes, intermedier cells and transmissible venereal tumour cells were observed in vaginal cytology. Abdominal ultrasonography showed cystic ovarian tissue (2.42 × 1.36 cm) next to the right kidney. Chemotherapy was performed once a week for six weeks leading to a gradual declined in the size and oedema of the mass and to a stop in bleeding. Subsequently, the vaginal mass was extirpated and the ovarian remnant tissue was removed via laparotomy on the same day. The bitch was found to be healthy on examination fourmonths later. Keratinophilic fungi and especially dermatophytes can be detected on the hair coat and skin of cats. The aim of this report is to present a rarely seen dermatophytic skin disease in cats. Two Persian cats, living in the same house, were found to be positive for Chyrososporium spp. using mycological culture. At that time the owner of the cats was undergoing chemotherapy for a mammary tumour. This treatment led to low immunity, intensive pruritus and also to scaling on the inside of her arms. Chrysosporium spp. were also detected in the cats' owner. Antifungal therapy was applied with fluconazole to both cats. Because of widespread lesions and alopecia, intravenous fluconazole was administered with a saline solution. The lesions improved inside a six week period after fluconazole therapy and no adverse effects were observed. An abscess was suspected and treatment with subcutaneous enrofloxacin was started immediately. After identification of the causative agents as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, and following susceptibility testing, enrofloxacin treatment was replaced with marbofloxacin, intralesional gentamicin/betamethasone treatment and gentamicin administered subcutaneously at an increased terrarium temperature of 35 °C. Seven days later, the formed pus plug was debrided and a combined marbofloxacin/gentamicin/betamethasone treatment was continued for an additional seven days. The swelling disappeared. Marbofloxacin was continued for ten more days, after which time microbiology tests were negative for S. maltophilia and P. aeruginosa. The animal began to eat and gain body weight. To our knowledge, this is the first report of an abscess treatment in a rattlesnake and the first to demonstrate the effective treatment of a S. maltophilia-induced infection with a combination of marbofloxacin and gentamicin. An ulcerated, bleeding wound was observed and diagnosed as an eyelid mass. The eyelid mass was excised and submitted for histopathological examination, which resulted in a diagnosis of meibomian adenoma. After excision of the mass, the right upper eyelid became deformed and adopted an abnormal shape. The surgical site was examined two weeks later. No abnormality was observed and the appearance of the right eyelid had returned to normal. Although there are many reports on benign tumours such as polyps, adenomas, haemangiomas and papillomas in hamsters, to the authors' knowledge, this is the first report on a meibomian adenoma in a Syrian hamster which was resolved by surgery. On physical examination, abdominal distension presented in the right flank and a percussion sound was audible. A round-shaped lesion was observed in the area of the large intestine on computed tomography and ultrasonography, and a diagnosis of intestinal intussusception was made. A surgical operation was decided upon immediately to correct the intussusception. An infarct lesion was found during surgery, and the lesion was observed on the intussuscepted intestines including the cecum, ileum, and colon. The area of intussusception was excised, and an anastomosis was performed. Despite intensive and supportive care, the patient died one day after the surgery due to poor general condition. An ileocecocolic intussusception is an uncommon case compared within other intestinal intussusceptions. Most affected calves have a history of severe diarrhoea and the prognosis is guarded due to poor general condition. Good survival can be expected if patients are diagnosed quickly.
